Our Inability To Communicate Is Created Through The Way We Are Taught.

Author: Terry Ross
Communication would be so easy if everyone grew up in an environment that encouraged and supported honest, open and loving communication and the need for relationship advice on how to communicate with our partners would largely disappear.

What you learn at an early age comes easily and naturally like learning how to speak. When you are young it doesn't seem that hard to learn a language but the older you get the harder it is.

Historically children were often seen and not heard, they weren't allowed to get involved in any kind of debate and feelings were something that you locked away in the back of your mind, not to be revealed at any cost.

Communication was an adult thing, something you'd learn when you were a lot older but as our parents often found it difficult to be totally open and honest with positive and loving communication in their relationships what we learned was to be the same.

Times have moved on with female equality and a greater acceptance of children outside of the nursery but communication remains in the past, particularly when it involves a relationship, advice is rarely sought and many families and couples finding increasingly difficult to express how they feel and help their partners and other loved ones understand their view point.

Had everything been different communication would have been a learned technique from our parent's open and communicative relationship. One of those learned techniques that would have proved a valuable asset as we progress through life. As it is, communication is something that we have to learn, often through trial and error and often at the expense of a few relationships, family members and friends along the way.

If we had been able to learn from our parents openly sharing their feelings, in a supporting, blameless environment we would be so much better equipped to cope with relationships, family and life.

Now that valuable time has past and the opportunity to learn from our parents has been lost we need to learn from the experience. However difficult it might be we still have the opportunity to leave the past behind, move forward into a new era and learn the art of positive, constructive, loving and supportive communication. We can reduce the need for relationship advice by learning how to communicate and in so doing give one of the best presents of all to ourselves, our partners, our relationships and our family.
