The Question Religion Forgot To Answer - Does God Laugh Too?

Author: Diane English

Have you noticed that "God" has many names, faces and backgrounds? Our beliefs about He/She/It, Universal Creator, Spirit or Grand Poobah, are as diverse as all the varied creatures God has laughed into existence. There is no consistent race, gender, size, shape or personality to God because we can't make up our minds. It's like perpetual menopause. Does God have a sense of humor? Does the Universe laugh? Does a bear poop in the woods? I think the obvious wild and glorious diversity in our world is proof of that. Besides, look at your genitals. You can't tell me God didn't have a long and hearty laugh while creating those.

Don't Take Yourself So Dammed Seriously!

The first rule of survival for all people is to laugh at yourself. One of the reasons people fight wars over God is because they forget God invented humor so we would not have to have wars. People who laugh together don't usually try to kill one another. I'm sure God had an 11th Commandment that Moses simply forgot to include in his rush down the hill, and that is: Thou Shall Be A Reflection Of All That Is Good.....And Funny. And I'm sure Divinity is delighted to know that Pope Benedict agrees with the existence of God's funny bone. "Humor is in fact an essential element in the mirth of creation. We can see how, in many matters in our lives, God wants to prod us into taking things a bit more lightly; to see the funny side of it; to get down off our pedestal and not to forget our sense of fun." proclaims the Pontiff. I'm sure God is relieved.

You Are Made In God's Image....Wow!

Many religions and spiritual belief systems believe we were created in God's image. If that's true then I think it is our joyful destiny to reflect back to Spirit all the laughter and boundless play that is our genetic, divine heritage. The feelings of joy and gratitude are your sure ticket to the comic, cosmic light show and connect you instantly to Universal Intelligence. Without laughter and humor life becomes disconnected, stagnant and negative; and you become a crashing bore. But with lightness of being you have the power to create a new life based in unbounded joy.

God's Punch Line is Death, So Eat Dessert First

The greatest argument for God's role as omnipotent jokester is the one thing all of us have in common...death. Here today, gone tomorrow. So how do you want to leave? Laughing at the irony of it all, or a crabby blockhead that everybody is glad to see go? Ultimately it's up to you. Let go of your terminal seriousness and laugh in delight of creation. Trust me....it will set you free. "Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves, for they will always be happy". Once we are liberated and love ourselves and humanity in spite of our screw-ups we will be able to hear the sweet giggling of God herself.
