South America

Author: Kent Pinkerton

Have you grown tired listening to your colleagues' tales of their international adventures? Do you want to go to another part of the world but don't know where to start? Then try South America. It offers a wide range of vacation spots that can be accessed either by land, air, or water. You will never run out of things to do in South America.

Whether you love the water and the sand or exploring caves, looking at exotic animals, or simply enjoying scenic views, South America is the continent for you. It makes communing with nature a truly memorable experience.

See the Amazon. South America is famed for the Amazon rainforest, which covers a great area of Brazil, Guyana, Peru, Columbia, Ecuador, French Guyana, Venezuela, Suriname, and Bolivia. You can join expedition teams to take you safely through the Amazon, so you can experience unique and challenging treks. Scientists believe that the Amazon may have half of the world's species. Hundreds of mammals, lizards, birds, and reptiles live in the Amazon.

Go to the beaches. South America - especially Brazil - is famous for its beautiful beaches. Go visit the beaches of Rio de Janeiro, donning your skimpiest tangas (thong bathing suit) and basking in the sun for as long as you want. Brazil is one of the few South American countries where nude or "naturist" beaches and resorts are legal.

Enjoy the flavors. South America is also very popular for its sumptuous foods, and each of the countries that comprise it has its own distinct flavors and recipes. Never leave the continent without trying the "Yerba Mate," which is a genuinely South American concoction that ranks very high in nutritional content among brewed or steeped drink products. Also try cuy, a guinea pig dish served with spicy pepper sauce and potatoes.

Whatever your itinerary, you will surely enjoy South America. The locals there are some of the friendliest in the world. Their fun-loving Latino spirit, their love of food and colorful festivals, and their positive view of life are so infectious - you will definitely come home more relaxed.
